Warner Animation Group's upcoming film 'SCOOB!' is now available for pre-order on iTunes but with a higher price than you may be accustomed to.
The movie - originally set for theatrical release pre-pandemic - will release May 15th via the TV App costing $24.99 instead of the usual $19.99 price point. This comes two years after The Wall Street Journal reported on Apple's insistence to limit movie pricing to $19.99, whilst the introduction of 4K streaming saw studios charge up to $29.99 for a single movie on competing storefronts.
'SCOOB!' was made available slightly later than on VUDU, Fandango Now and Amazon Video - adding to speculation that Apple and Warner Bros Media Group likely negotiated the higher $24.99 purchase price following the successful $19.99 rental windows of: 'Trolls World Tour', 'The Invisible Man', 'The Hunt' and 'Emma'.
Time will tell whether this new pricing tier is reserved for purchases of movies still receiving a theatrical run, and not a shift to higher price points in general.
