Vizio is the latest television manufacturer to roll out support for Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. These features make it easier for iOS and OSX users to share content to the big screen as well as control their TVs power, volume and inputs through a combination of Siri voice commands and Apple’s Home and Remote apps.

Starting today, Vizio owners are required to update Vizio’s SmartCast 3.0 software which includes support for both. It should be noted compatible Vizio TVs will be updated in a phased process “through the coming months”.

Here is the list of compatible Vizio TVs:

VIZIO P-Series Quantum X (2019)

VIZIO P-Series Quantum (2019 and 2018)

VIZIO P-Series (2018, 2017 and 2016)

VIZIO M-Series Quantum (2019)

VIZIO M-Series (2018, 2017 and 2016)

VIZIO E-Series (2018, 2017 and 2016 UHD models)

VIZIO V-Series (2019)

VIZIO D-Series (2018)

Vizio should be commended for the vast array of SmartCast TV models that will be compatible with both features; with some dating back to 2016. Other manufacturers in comparison are limiting these convenient features to their 2019 models and in some exceptions to last years models.

LG started rolling out AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to some of their 2019 TVs yesterday whilst Sony are expected to roll out support for their flagship models in the near future. Samsung TVs will not support HomeKit compatibility in favour of their own SmartThings platform yet support AirPlay 2. Samsung are also the first TV manufacturer to feature the Apple TV app, giving access to Apple TV Channels along with iTunes Movie and iTunes TV Show purchases and rentals.
