Update 2 – July 25th 10.10am

We received an email from LG’s UK PR Team this morning clarifying the situation.

“I’m really sorry but it turns out we (the UK office) misunderstood the comms from HQ in South Korea – by ‘all’ AI ThinQ TVs, the press release was only referring to the 2019 line up, therefore my email quoting ‘past and present’ is not accurate. Again I apologise for the misinformation on this”.

Update 1 – July 24th 11pm

In a bizarre turn of events LG have refuted the statement made by their UK PR team to us earlier today. LG offered the following statement to 9to5Mac whilst opening up to the future possibility of HomeKit and AirPlay 2 support on their older TVs:

“LG cannot guarantee that TV models prior to 2019 will be able to deliver a seamless user experience. Therefore, while this may be a possibility in the future, at the moment, LG has no plans to update its pre-2019 TVs with Airplay2 or Homekit”.

Original Article

In January LG announced Apple HomeKit and AirPlay 2 would be coming exclusively to It’s 2019 TV’s. Whilst other manufacturers including VIZIO and Sony will also be supporting these features across some of their product lines, LG will be first to the punch with a public rollout to it’s AI ThinQ compatible TVs starting this week.

With HomeKit support, LG TVs can be controlled with voice – via Siri – or through the Home app in iOS. Using either method you will be able to trigger power, volume and inputs. LG TVs will also be able to become a part of user defined automations and scenes.

HomeKit and AirPlay will be rolling out in phases to LG TV owners from July 25th to the following 2019 models:

LG Super UHD AI ThinQ – Models SK80, SK81, SK85, SK95

LG NanoCell AI ThinQ – Models SM98, SM90, SM86, SM82

LG OLED AI ThinQ – Models B9, C9, E9, W9

But wait, there’s more good news…

After communication via email with Piers Le Moignan of LG’s UK press team, ScreenTimes.net can exclusively confirm that HomeKit and AirPlay 2 will be coming to

“All LG TV models with AI ThinQ from past to present”

meaning owners of some older LG TVs will be joining in on the party!
