With the launch of Apple TV+ creeping ever nearer, Apple have chosen the past few Monday mornings to give us a taste of what to expect later this year when the subscription service launches. Today the company published a new trailer for ‘Dickinson’, a new 30 minute comedy series starring Hailee Steinfeld (The Edge of Seventeen, Spider-Man: Into the Universe, Pitch Perfect 3) as the eponymous poet Emily Dickinson.
Created by Alena Smith (The Affair, The Newsroom) – the trailer takes on a very different tone compared to what we’ve seen so far from Apple TV+. Soundtracked by 2015’s “I Like Tuh” by Carnage feat. iLoveMakonnen, the short teaser offers a very different perspective on the shy, reclusive Dickinson we had previously grown to know. Instead we are introduced to a horn throwing, rock-n-rolling, rebellious, spunky young lady ready for domestic war (and possibly the circus).
This interpretation of the late great American poet depicts a popularised recent theory by scholars, following the discovery that Dickinsons first posthumous editor – Mabel Loomis Todd – did everything to cover up her secret life long love affair with future sister-in-law Susan Gilbert.
Also starring Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Toby Huss (King of the Hill) and Ella Hunt (Anna and the Apocalypse), Dickinson will be part of the launch lineup for Apple TV+ when the service goes live later in the year.
